A New, User-Friendly Website Intends To Introduce A New Generation To The History and Artistry of Quilts

HARRISONBURG, VA - The Virginia Quilt Museum in Downtown Harrisonburg, Virginia has launched a new website aimed at reimagining excitement for quilters, art lovers, history enthusiasts, crafters, and educators. As museums across the world look to find new ways to engage with guests during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Virginia Quilt Museum is looking to provide a more streamlined, more engaging online experience for its guests.

“I’m so excited for our members and friends to see our new website. With this new site the Museum will be able to share more content and provide an easier experience for our online visitors”, says Virginia Quilt Museum Executive Director, Alicia Thomas.

The Virginia Quilt Museum was founded in 1995 and is the Official Quilt Museum of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Located in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, the Museum promotes Virginia’s unique blend of art and cultural heritage. The Museum holds three floors of rotating, curated gallery space, with a mission of “celebrating and nurturing Virginia's quilting heritage”. Heirloom quilts, contemporary quilts and art quilts are featured simultaneously, alongside many traveling exhibitions.

The Virginia Quilt Museum’s new website was contracted with Standout Arts, LLC - a Waynesboro, Virginia based website, marketing, and graphic design firm.

“Working with Shannon and all of the Standout Arts Team has been such a positive experience. They listened to all of our concerns, offered excellent advice and guidance, and delivered a superb new website. The Museum couldn’t not have done this project without Standout Arts," says Thomas.

The new website includes an overhauled visual experience to adhere to today's best practices for website visuals, enabling the Museum to have a stronger representation of the artistic and creative aspects of their brand. It also has an optimized layout specific to smart phones and mobile devices. A stream-lined navigational system for finding information, as well as a frontpage updated with current exhibits and programs, makes the new website extremely user-friendly. There is now also an easier way to donate to the Museum, become a member, or donate a quilt on the new website.

The Virginia Quilt Museum offers many educational programs, group tours, and many special events that help to further their mission. The Virginia Quilt Museum is a small non-profit organization that is primarily funded by donations. Their mission is to “cultivate and preserve the quilting arts in Virginia.”

“With our new website we hope to offer more online content for our visitors that can’t make it to the museum in Harrisonburg. As the official quilt museum of the Commonwealth of Virginia we want to offer engaging content for Virginia’s in all parts of the Commonwealth, this new website will allow us to do that in a modern and accessible way", adds Thomas.

The Museum is currently open for on-site and in-person tours. Many events are planned for 2022. One includes the exhibit opening of “Excellence in Quilts” opening on February 15, 2022. Another event is the Crazy Quilt exhibit refresh of a whole new room of crazy quilts, on February 22, 2022. Fearless Curves with Cindy Grisdela is a summer event happening on June 25, 2022.

The new website is now live and active at www.vaquiltmuseum.org and all are welcome to visit the Museum onsite Tuesday-Saturday 10am to 4pm. Stay up to date on all information of current and upcoming exhibits and programs. Additionally, the website will keep updated health and safety information for the Museum.
